Modern Body Shop was founded in 1972 by Gene Sapp, an Army veteran, graduate of the University of Georgia, husband to Mary, and father of four boys. The shop’s original building was a converted chicken house, and was just down the road from the current location. In 1977, Gene moved the shop to the land in between his house and Mary’s childhood home.

As his sons, Morris, Lamar, David, and Jeff, grew older, they also began to learn the family business. Throughout the years, Modern Body Shop added additional services as they were in demand: a radiator shop, van customization shop, and vehicle inspection station.

Modern Body Shop has thrived as a family business over 50 years, and Gene and Mary still live next door. Gene, Lamar, David, and Jeff continue to operate the shop, and Morris is now the pastor of a local church.
